Congratulations to everyone who auditioned this year.  Treat this and every audition as a learning experience and be proud of the hard work you put in preparing.  The auditions were particularly competitive this year, and unfortunately not everyone was able to make it.  Auditioning is not easy, and we will work to continue improving each year, so that with each future audition you will be even more confident!  I will have individual score sheets available for all students on Monday.  Cut-off scores have not yet been released, but I will let you know what they were as soon as I find out.

AUDITIONS DATES, LOCATIONS, AND TIMES:

All-Cape: Wednesday November 19th, Falmouth HS, 4PM Audition Time (Meetup right after school)
Senior District: Saturday November 22, King Phillip HS, 11AM Audition Time (Bus approx 9:00AM)

Students grades 7-9 who are interested in Junior Districts: now is the time to start turning in Junior District forms and money ($15 cash or check made out to Mashpee High School).  At the moment, I have a large number of students interested -- I can only take 6 of each voice part: SATB.  Whoever turns in their forms and money first will be registered (followed by oldest to youngest grades).

At this point, I have almost all Senior District and All-Cape forms and money!  There are still spots available for Senior District if anyone is interested in auditioning!! Please let me know this week or early next week at the latest.  All you need is a completed form and $15 audition fee.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After your audition, I will find out the results within a day or two.  Students who are accepted will eventually receive a folder of music, and will travel together to the honors festivals next spring.  Students will miss a day of school and be transported to and from the festival, however, they will need to be picked up after the concert on the final Saturday.  The dates of each festival are listed below:

All Cape HS Festival: February 5-7 (concert Sat. Feb 7)
Senior District Festival: January 9-10 (concert Sat. Jan 10)

Junior Select Chorus

Thank you to everyone who tried out!  We had a great turn-out!  Unfortunately, due to the high amount of students who auditioned, I wasn't able to accept everyone.  Please know that if you weren't selected this fall, there may be openings in the spring, and you will definitely have opportunities to join in the future.  Auditioning is a learning experience, and I am very proud of all the students who turned out to audition!

Please note: Rehearsals start next Wednesday and go from 2:15-3:30pm.  We may have occasional rehearsals on other days to accommodate fall athletes.  When fall sports are over, it is very important that everyone is at all the rehearsals.  If you can't make a rehearsal you must let me know in advance!  Skipping rehearsals will cause you to be out of the group.  Additionally, it is equally important to be focused in rehearsals with a positive attitude.

August Updates

Students and Parents:

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!  It's hard to believe that in only a few short weeks school will be starting up again.  We have an exciting year ahead in the Mashpee Vocal Music program.  There will be new music and new performance opportunities this year.  I look forward to hitting the ground running when school starts and getting back into preparing for fall festival auditions and upcoming concerts.

*IMPORTANT*
There have been some scheduling conflicts this summer involving students who requested chorus last spring
If you do not have chorus on your schedule, please email guidance as soon as possible so they can fix your schedule:

Pat Farrell  pfarrell@mashpee.k12.ma.us (grades 7-9)
Dan Patenaude  dpatenaude@mashpee.k12.ma.us (grades 10-12)

I have contacted a few parents this summer regarding these conflicts and have had several of them resolved.  Again, if chorus is not on your schedule, please email guidance or stop in and see them if you're around the school.

Some other items:

- If you have not had a chance to check out the choral calendar for this year, please do so by clicking the link at the top.

- Within the next few weeks, I will start creating links to some of the new music we will be looking at this year in Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and Middle School Choir.

- Auditions for select groups: high school vocal jazz and middle school select chorus will be taking place around the 2nd week of school, with rehearsals to start at the end of September.  If you are unfamiliar with either of these groups please click the link at the top for more information

Any questions/comments/concerns heading into the school year, please email me: braymond@mashpee.k12.ma.us

Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!  Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!

Wonderful Concert Everyone!

Students:

Congratulations to all the student performers on the concert last night.  I am very proud of you all.  We received high praise and positive feedback from many people!

Principal Jane Day had this to say:   "...The students did a wonderful job with some very sophisticated music. The MMS Chorus, the MHS Concert Choir, and the MHS Chamber Choir all presented numbers in Latin (Mr. Berry would be very proud!), as well as more updated tunes. The newly formed MHS Vocal Jazz Ensemble debuted with an old standard, “On Green Dolphin Street” and by the end of their program had the audience singing along to “Gotta Get You into My Life.” It was announced last night that this particular group will be going to the New England Jazz Festival (Berklee) to compete. This is the largest high school jazz festival in the nation and highly competitive. The students and their teacher are understandably thrilled. We are so proud of the work they’ve done...."

So again, congratulations, and I hope you are all excited about the work we are doing together to maintain a high standard of quality music in our school district!

 --------------------------------------------------------------
Moving ahead... last night we received the exciting news that we are off the wait-list and will be competing at the Berklee High School Jazz Festival in two weeks!!

In order to put our best foot forward, it is crucial that vocal jazz members put time and effort into getting prepared for this festival.  We have three very important rehearsals coming up that everyone must attend.

These rehearsals are:
Tuesday Jan 28, 2:30-4:00pm
Tuesday Feb 4, 2:30-4:00pm
Thursday Feb 6, 2:30-3:15pm

Berklee will take place Saturday, Feb 8th in Boston at the Hynes Convention Center and is free and open to the public!  Any and all parents and friends are welcome to come.  The Mashpee Jazz Band will be on at 9:55am and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will be on at 5:00pm (last group to perform!).  I hope everyone is as excited as I am...this will be a tremendous opportunity for our singers and instrumentalists.
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
All-Cape Honors Music:  Next Week All-Cape will be taking place Thursday Evening, all day Friday, and part of the day Saturday.  For more information including a detailed schedule see the following link:

If this is a problem for anyone, email me: braymond@mashpee.k12.ma.us

Thanks
