August Updates

Students and Parents:

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!  It's hard to believe that in only a few short weeks school will be starting up again.  We have an exciting year ahead in the Mashpee Vocal Music program.  There will be new music and new performance opportunities this year.  I look forward to hitting the ground running when school starts and getting back into preparing for fall festival auditions and upcoming concerts.

*IMPORTANT*
There have been some scheduling conflicts this summer involving students who requested chorus last spring
If you do not have chorus on your schedule, please email guidance as soon as possible so they can fix your schedule:

Pat Farrell  pfarrell@mashpee.k12.ma.us (grades 7-9)
Dan Patenaude  dpatenaude@mashpee.k12.ma.us (grades 10-12)

I have contacted a few parents this summer regarding these conflicts and have had several of them resolved.  Again, if chorus is not on your schedule, please email guidance or stop in and see them if you're around the school.

Some other items:

- If you have not had a chance to check out the choral calendar for this year, please do so by clicking the link at the top.

- Within the next few weeks, I will start creating links to some of the new music we will be looking at this year in Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and Middle School Choir.

- Auditions for select groups: high school vocal jazz and middle school select chorus will be taking place around the 2nd week of school, with rehearsals to start at the end of September.  If you are unfamiliar with either of these groups please click the link at the top for more information

Any questions/comments/concerns heading into the school year, please email me: braymond@mashpee.k12.ma.us

Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!  Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!

Mr. Raymond

June Updates

Students and Parents:

We are nearing the end of a fantastic school year!  There are many news items for you as we wrapup the school year and head towards summer break.

Spring Concert Wrapup:  Congratulations to all the Mashpee Middle and High School musicians on two fantastic spring concerts!  We had many outstanding performers and soloists.  The talent was very evident and the future is very bright for our music program.

Hall Of Fame Class of 2014:  This year I have started a new tradition.  A new hall of fame was created to honor graduating seniors who have been involved in the vocal music program all four years of their high school careers.  These outstanding leaders have been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities including, vocal jazz/acappella, musicals, coffeehouse, cabaret night, etc
This year we had three inductees including: Kayla Burnell, Kylie Laue, and Alexis Pascal

Additionally a four year senior award was given to Hailee Frye for her four-year involvement in Mashpee Choirs!

Website Updates:  Please visit all the tabs/links on this website as they have all been updated with information for next year!

2014-2015 Calendar:  The calendar for next year is finished and posted on the calendar tab above as well as outside the chorus room.  Some of the events are still tentative however and this calendar will change as further updates are made available.

New Changes and Developments:  There will be more information to come; however, we have several exciting changes taking place as we continue to evolve and progress toward an even higher standard of excellence.

These changes and developments include:
-- Rooms C119 and C120 will be converted into full size practice rooms
-- New Microphones for Vocal Jazz/Select Choir
 -- New Yamaha Keyboards
 -- New Mac/Computer Lab for Music Technology/Composition
-- New Potential Festivals For Vocal Jazz: (UMass Jazz Festival / UNH Jazz Festival)
-- New Class "History of American Popular Music"
-- Auditions for MHS Vocal Jazz
-- Auditions for MMS Select Choir (this ensemble will run all year next year)
-- Alignment with the Technology Department "Mashpee Technological Center of Excellence"

Students: Best of luck on final exam...
Stay tuned for more information leading up to summer vacation!

Fantastic job to all the high school student performers!

As we move into the home stretch of the school year, we have two key dates next week:

Students must arrive at the high school at 6pm
Concert Dress is the same as the winter concert --all black and ties for the men
Vocal Order Will Be: Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Combined Choirs, Vocal Jazz, (then instrumental groups)

Just as a reminder -- this is a required performance and is part of the class grade for all choral students!  Anyone who absolutely cannot attend must have a signed parent letter or email.

Friday May 23: Mashpee Southport "Pastabilities" Night

Students must arrive at Southport by 7:15pm.  The program will begin at 8:00pm
Performing Groups Will Be: Middle School Select Chorus, MHS Vocal Jazz, MHS Jazz Band, and Musical Selections

Southport is located on Old Barnstable Rd, Just north of 151 on the left.  There is a guard at the entrance gate, tell him you're there to perform at the Pastabilities Night.  This is a sold-out Southport Residents-only event, however there is limited room in the back for parents to sit and watch if they'd like (Middle School Parents only!)

Questions...please email me: braymond@mashpee.k12.ma.us

Looking forward to some great music over these final weeks!

Cabaret Nite 2014!

Students and Parents:

Cabaret Nite 2014 is upon us!  The show will take place tomorrow (Friday) at 7:00pm.  As we begin the final preparations, I wanted to fill you all in on the details and see if any of you are available to help volunteer in any way.  Your help and assistance is greatly appreciated!!  This should be a really fun event that will raise money for our vocal music program.

-- The show starts at 7:00pm and I would like to begin setting up and preparing at 6:00pm.  I ask that all students involved please arrive around 6:00pm to help with setup.

-- I will need parents to help me primarily with the admission cash box, raffle table, and tickets.

-- If anyone has any raffle item they would like to donate it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

-- Also any parents or students who would like to bake anything or bring in any food items would also be greatly appreciated!!!

-- We will have a table for baked goods and drinks...students will serve these out on the tables around 7:00pm, just in time for the show to begin.  When the show starts, there will be a first half program followed by an intermission (for people to get food/drinks and buy raffle tickets).  There will be a second half program, then the raffle winners will be announced, and then we will close with a full group number.

-- I am currently in the process of finalizing the program and getting all the supplies in order

Please let me know if you have any questions: braymond@mashpee.k12.ma.us

Thank you everyone for all your help and assistance!  This will be a great event!
